We are all in agreement that Los Angeles has a severe shortage of housing. The LA City Council and Mayor Bass have made bold moves towards solving the systemic problems that have plagued the city. Serious efforts are being made, and we all appreciate the forward momentum. However, the ED-1 rules are out of line with how Angelenos live, work and commute.
We do not dispute that mass transit is the answer to many of the city’s congestion problems. However, allowing large multi-tenant buildings to be built without adequate (or any) parking willfully ignores the main mode of transportation of Angelenos. The City has not developed its mass transit options enough to demand that its residents solely rely on it.
While initially focused on the development at Moorpark and Whitsett, this is a city-wide problem. While we largely agree with the other tenants of ED-1, not requiring parking for large multi-unit housing projects will create tremendous safety and traffic issues for the residents of Los Angeles.
We, the undersigned voters, vehemently disagree with the lack of parking provisions in the current law and demand a pause on construction while traffic safety studies are conducted.
